The newly released #willpower album is will.i.am’s fourth solo project. He has already enjoyed great success as a record producer and a member of The Black Eyed Peas as well. The album features several solos, as well as various collaborations featuring A-list musicians such as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Chris Brown and Britney Spears.
Considering the world-famous musicians featured on the album, the song with will.i.am and 2ne1 marks an important step between K-pop and the American music industry and shows how K-pop artists are continuing to gain popularity across the globe.
The song features a bright beat and lyrics which are much more risqué than 2ne1 is accustomed to recording. Since its release on youtube, the song has already gained a lot of views and is earning praise from fans like, “Wow…willpower is amazing, and the cooperation is awesome” and “CL’s rap was amazing.” However, some fans are disappointed saying the song was “beneath them” and that they had lost their K-pop edge and sounded “too mainstream.”
Whatever your opinion, the fact remains that this is an important step between two different worlds of music and we can only look forward to seeing more collaborations with K-pop artists in the future!
